Temporary Event Structures (1)

Temporary Structures for Live Events

You may or may not know that 2026 is the Year of the Horse in Chinese culture. Symbolising speed, strength, reliability and forward momentum, it felt like a fitting way to kick off the year and a useful lens through which to talk about how we work at WH Silverbacks.

Live events are fast-paced, detail-driven and often demanding.  That’s exactly where we thrive. The qualities associated with the Horse; calm under pressure, agile in execution and dependable when it matters most, closely mirror our approach to delivering temporary event structures that perform, look right, and work seamlessly within complex event environments.

Speed, momentum and getting it right first time

In event delivery, timing is everything. Build schedules set the rhythm for the entire site.  If temporary event structures are late, everything else stalls.

Some events come together in a single day; others take weeks or even months of careful planning and phased installation.  Each project has its own pace, constraints and pressures, but the goal is always the same: hit the agreed timeline safely, efficiently and without unnecessary stress for anyone else on site.

Our team understands the role we play as one of the very first stages of a live event build. Temporary structures need to be installed promptly and correctly so that creative teams, caterers, lighting suppliers and production crews can move straight in and get on with their work.  Without the structure, nothing else can move forward.

That’s why our planning phase is rigorous.  Timings are mapped in detail, site logistics are considered early, and builds are sequenced to avoid delays. Whether it’s a rapid one day install or a long-term, multi-phase build, we work to the schedule agreed without compromising on safety, quality or finish.

Shorter builds can be more cost effective but naturally can limit what’s achievable.  Longer build periods allow for more complex structures, layered designs and creative enhancements.  WH Silverbacks is experienced in working across both ends of that spectrum and helping our clients understand what’s possible within their time and budget, then delivering it efficiently.

Innovation and Adaptability

Every event site is different, and no two briefs are ever the same. Innovation, for us, isn’t about novelty for novelty’s sake — it’s about finding smart, practical solutions that work in real environments.

We define and refine each structure to ensure it serves its purpose properly, whether that’s providing weather protection, creating hospitality spaces, supporting brand activations or forming the backbone of a large-scale event village.  Design decisions are always made in context, factoring in the surrounding infrastructure, audience flow, sight lines and the experience of the people using the space.

We work exclusively with high-quality marquees, stretch tents, truss structures and pagodas, and continuously evolve how we deploy them for our clients.  From interpreting a client’s vision to balancing budget, space and logistics, our role is to translate ideas into realistic, safe and visually strong structures that perform exactly as required on the day, and, importantly, look amazing.

Precision, quality and trust

Precision underpins everything we do at WH Silverbacks.  With over 20 years in the industry, we’ve learned that delivering consistently well comes down to meticulous planning, attention to detail and clear communication at every stage.

From initial drawings through to final installation, we ensure every element aligns with the agreed specification.  Our clients trust us because we do what we say we’ll do and we do it properly.

Temporary Event Structures for Equestrian Events

Temporary structures are fundamental to major equestrian events in the UK, from the Grand National at Aintree and Royal Ascot to the Epsom Derby. These events often rely on vast, interconnected villages of temporary infrastructure (hospitality spaces, bars, catering outlets, back-of-house facilities and staff areas) many of which can take months to design and construct and only days to de-rig.

We’re proud to play our part in bringing these events to life.  Here are a few of our favourites!

The Grand National, Aintree

At Aintree, we installed a large-scale hospitality cover featuring a black stretch tent mounted on a truss structure, elevated to incorporate the client’s container DJ booths beneath.  Completed in just two days, the build demonstrated:

  • Speed: A tight installation window with a swift one-day de-rig
  • Innovation: A bespoke solution tailored to the client’s creative vision
  • Precision: Careful adherence to site constraints and scheduling requirements

The Epsom Derby

For the Epsom Derby, we delivered a trussing configuration connected to stretch tents to form a distinctive outdoor bar area. This project showcased:

  • Speed: A complete build delivered in only two days
  • Innovation: A creative approach that enhanced the pre-designed bar space to make it something extraordinary and unique for the Derby

Precision: A perfect fit on the allocated decking, matching the original design exactly

Royal Ascot

At Royal Ascot, our team installed multiple back-of-house structures for staff and security, including marquees and bar platforms. The build highlighted:

  • Speed: Efficient coordination on a busy, shared site
  • Innovation: Functional spaces delivered with the level of finish that’s come to be expected at such a prestigious event
  • Precision: Careful space and safety management in a highly controlled environment

Looking ahead to 2026

As we move through 2026 and the Year of the Horse, those defining qualities – speed, innovation and precision – remain central to how we work.  For us, it’s about building strong foundations that allow events to run smoothly, look exceptional and deliver the experiences audiences expect and have come to love. When you work with WH Silverbacks, you’re partnering with a team that understands live environments, respects timelines, and delivers temporary event structures you can rely on calmly, confidently and with purpose. We’re so looking forward to this year and all the events we’ll help build.
