Sail GP Event Structure

The high-speed sailing event Sail GP, using foiling catamarans, which tours the globe with a fleet of nations competing for the top position. Ben Ainslie (the most successful Olympic sailor in history) is the Team Principle and Skipper of INEOS Team UK.

WH Silverbacks were asked to get creative on a pier 3.5m wide with a sculpture that sat right in the middle of it all. To house a number of VIPs to watch the sailing on race day!

Solution
WH Silverbacks created a platform split into two sections covering the pier in its entirety fitting with only cm’s to spare on both sides, leaving a gap for the sculpture.

It was enclosed using glass handrails for safety but using glass allowed the feeling of being in the water and seeing the sea both sides of the platform.

We created and built a truss structure to fit perfectly over the deck, and covered it with bespoke made white stretch tents. Finishing with an Astro Turf floor cover creating the feeling of outside inside.

This space gave a real feel of being on the water and a great race view.

We love to be given a challenge to then come up with a solution to fulfil the clients brief, whether a platform, decking area, marquee, stretch tent, truss structure, dome or something we need to make from scratch.
